ASIAN FOR UNIFICATION OF ASIA WOMEN

FOR THE PROGRESS OF ASIA

AND PROTECTION OF HER PRICELESS IDEALS OF FREEDOM AND JUSTICE.

“This would be the most distinguished contribution of the Philippines to the world’s effort for building lasting peace.”

This was the vision of Hon. Geronima T. Pecson, First Woman Senator of the Republic of the Philippines and UNESCO Commissioner. On June 19, 1958 – to commemorate the birthday of the Philippine National Hero, Jose P. Rizal, she wrote a letter to the National Federation of Women’s Club  of the Philippines President Minerva T. Laudico urging her during the board meeting to form the Asian Federation of Women. Mrs. Pilar Hidalgo Lim thought of the name FAWA. Madeleine Bordallo, President of Guam Women’s Club suggested Asia be changed to Asia-Pacific. She is now the Congresswoman of Guam in the US Congress.
